"Contradicting Advice"

By: Kwase from Sudan
4 September 2007

When I was nine years old, my grand father who was ninety-nine years old told me women cannot do jobs done by men.

One day my father told me to go digging with my sister.  I could not believe my ears, simply because I respected my father and grand father.

I didn't know whose advice to go with. In African tradition, age determines who is right, therefore my grandfather was more correct than my father.

Today, however I have discovered on my own at age twenty-seven, that both men and women can do the same job very well.  This is the most interesting and unforgettable experience of my life.
